FABRICATION OF A STEEL CLAMSHELL VALVE COVER FOR THE OIL & NATURAL GAS INDUSTRY
One of our customers in the oil and natural gas industry asked us to fabricate a steel clamshell valve cover for them. This demanding fabrication allows access to the clamshell joint, and would require a full spectrum of fabrication skills, equipment, and even proprietary methods.
We cut 1/8th thick A1011 carbon sheet steel and 3/16″ and 1/4″ thick A36 plate steel into the necessary components using our Mitsubishi 3015LVplus-40CFX 4,000 watt laser cutter. We have a 242-ton Amada Promecam HFB2204/8 CNC press brake and Power Roll with 6′ bed, which were employed to form and roll the steel sheet and plate according to 2D CAD drawings and customer specifications.
A HAAS vertical Mill VF-2 performed all necessary milling before our AWS certified (D1. 1) welding staff used a TIG welder and customer weld fixtures for final manual assembly. A FaroArm CMM, which performs 3D inspections, was used to verify the final dimension. These 18″ wide x 22″ long x 12″ tall valve covers, fabricated to tight tolerances of +0.010″/-0.002″, were then sand-blasted and painted. We are able to fabricate these valve covers for our domestic customer in only four to six weeks.
By using proprietary method we were able to make this complex shape with a high degree of accuracy and minimal distortion from welding. To learn more about ABC Sheet Metal, contact us now.
