FABRICATION OF A STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST FILTER SYSTEM FOR THE DIESEL GENERATOR INDUSTRY
Diesel fuels remain prevalent in a variety of power applications around the world, but their emissions are being more closely watched than ever before in an attempt to reduce air pollution.
One of our customers manufactures industrial diesel generators, and they needed an exhaust filter system for their product. An exhaust filter system is used to clean chemical byproducts released when diesel fuel is burned, removing particulates before they can be released into the atmosphere.
Following the PPAP approval process, 2D and 3D CAD drawings, and rigid customer specifications, we fabricated the exhaust filter systems out of 12 gauge 304 stainless steel sheet/plate varying in thicknesses from 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, to 1/2″ to precision tolerances of ±0.005”. We cut the components with a Mitsubishi 3015LVplus-40CFX 4,000 watt laser cutter and a Marvel 2125PC band saw before they were formed, rolled, and even spun into their final configurations. A gas metal arc MIG welder, Flexcore wire, and custom welding fixtures were used by our AWS certified (D1.6) welding staff to assemble the exhaust filters. These filters, which were 144” long, 60” in diameter, and weighed in excess of 1,700 lbs., were then subjected to FaroArm CMM inspection.
This process allows easy verification of product quality by performing 3D inspections, tool certifications, CAD comparison, dimensional analysis, reverse engineering, and more. An ISO 9001:2008 certified fabricator; we produced several of the stainless steel exhaust filter system in only six to eight weeks for domestic delivery.
